About Charlie's Honda

Charlie Shuman, the President of Charlie's Motor Mall is running what is now considered the largest new car dealer group in the state. He takes pride in superior customer satisfaction with the largest inventory of new and used cars available.

Charlie hasn't forgotten his small beginnings when he took his first job as an office clerk at the former Henry Kimball Co., a Dodge dealership. Where he worked his way through other positions, before moving on to work for American Motors Jeep Corp. During those 17 years, he worked his way up, eventually becoming District Sales Manager for Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

In 1986, he and a partner opened Charlie's Subaru in Augusta, Maine. Charlie bought him out after 5 years and continued buying more dealerships... and his success has continued.

Charlie Shuman has built the company from a single franchise employing 17 people in 1986 to a 240- employee, 8- franchise company selling nearly 7,000 vehicles annually. Even though Charlie's has grown substantially, we still are a family run business with the same values and beliefs that starts the organization 25 years ago.

Good Morning,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just wanted to thank Josh, Belinda, and the gentleman who did finance (can't remember his name. Sorry) for making our car buying experience so enjoyable. My family was in the car business for 50 years. About 3 years ago, the business folded due to the economy. This Honda was the first car I have ever purchased from a non-family member. After a terrible experience at another dealership, we were really leery of another bigger dealer. You guys knocked it out of the park, not only were you extremely accommodating in working with us via e-mail, but you had the car you promised you'd have at the payment you promised you could get us. You have no idea what a relief that was. The whole process was very laid back and friendly. We didn't feel pressured or taken advantage of at all. In fact, the friendly family like atmosphere of your dealership reminded me a lot of our old dealership.

We love the CR-V, and have been raving about how much we love Charlie's to everyone we talk to. In fact, my cousin is on her way up there tomorrow to look at buying her own CR-V. Thank you so much.  You have made some very happy, loyal customers out of us.

I just wanted to thank Donny, Josh, and all of you at Charlie's Honda for working with us last weekend. We are very happy with our Honda Pilot! We really appreciate the honesty, information, and customer service that everyone provided us.  We choose to go to Charlie's instead of our local dealership because of the customer service provided by Donny prior to him even meeting us!

As an example, our local dealership wanted us to make a refundable down payment over the phone in order to save a Honda Pilot for us to test drive the next day, when they had 13 EXLs on site.  I had never heard of such a strange - pushy request and that was the last straw for us.  We drove down to Augusta and everything was ready for us, even though we had never requested it.  In less than 3 hours we drove away with our new Pilot very pleased! Our local dealership? - well they still have all 13 EXLs for sale.

I've told everyone I've talked to about how great Charlie's Honda is an I hope that they all make the trip to Augusta when it comes time for them to get a new vehicle.  I know that when we are ready for a new vehicle we will make the trip again.

My husband, our Great Dane (the reason for the need of an SUV), and I thank the entire team at Charlie's Honda.  We look forward to working with you again in the future.

We really wanted to let you know of our recent experience with your Honda Dealership. Of all the cars we have purchased through the years, including several at one or another of your other dealerships, this was the best experience of all.


My husband and I prepared well for the purchase; knowing that we either wanted in RAV4 or a CR-V. The CR-V was the winner. It?s a lovely car and just what we were looking for a car like ride with SUV benefits.


But mainly I am writing to tell you how we enjoyed the entire sales team that worked with us, especially Dustin Gay. Here?s what we liked about him: his product knowledge was outstanding; his patience, especially with me while trying to decide between two colors; his attention to every detail, right down to putting my garage door opener on the visor of our new car; his charming personality, allowing us the space to talk privately about our decision; but most of all his passion and pride in his job. I was impressed today, when meeting Bud Sergent, in the service department; my '07 Sedan received removal and replacement of the water pump pulley and bolts per a recall situation.


Mr. Sergent?s easy, polite and professional manner reflects well on Charlie?s Honda. On a scale of one to ten, ten being tops, Bud gets a 9! Only perfect people get a 10; and happily, God didn?t create any of those.
